Making Space: A Conversation about Church, Welcoming, and Gender

Ever wonder what a welcoming & affirming, LGBTQIA+ friendly church might look like?

Join us at 11am on June 2nd and 16th for conversations about what it takes to create a truly welcoming space in church. We will hear stories from those who have experienced both welcome and rejection in the church, and learn together about steps we can take to more fully embody God’s inclusive love in our faith communities. We are thrilled to welcome Brent Anders as the facilitator for these conversations.

June 16 – Learning the Language of Love
– A conversation about how words and practices can create welcoming space for people of all gender identities

These events will be lively and conversational. Come ready to participate! A light lunch will be provided.

More about our facilitator:
Brent Anders grew up rooted in the Mennonite community, graduating from Dock Mennonite Academy in 2007 and Eastern Mennonite University in 2011. While in college, he came out as gay and experienced a tumultuous relationship with both his family and church community.
For the past 8 years, Brent has worked as a preschool teacher at Salford Mennonite Church, where he and his boyfriend Joe are active members. As a teacher, Brent strives to incorporate welcome, inclusion, and a celebration of all people into his curriculum, which features themes on family structure, race, and gender identity.
