Atwater Donnelly

Tonight’s concert features the award-winning, internationally acclaimed duo, Atwater-Donnelly. Aubrey Atwater and Elwood Donnelly present delightful programs of traditional American and Celtic folk songs and percussive dance. Elwood and Aubrey blend gorgeous harmonies and play an astonishing array of instruments including guitar, Appalachian mountain dulcimer, mandolin, tin whistle, harmonica, banjo, limberjacks, and other surprises including a thrilling interpretation of freestyle Appalachian clog dancing. Their performance is appealing to all ages, and with humor, audience participation, and a relaxed stage presence, Aubrey and Elwood explain song origins to give more relevance to the material. Married since 1989, Aubrey and Elwood perform widely in the United States and abroad and their thirteen recordings receive international airplay.

Opening the evening is Chip Mergott. Chip has been described by Bonnie Raitt as “one of my favorite songwriters.” Originally signed to London Records and produced by legendary guitarist/producer David Spinozza (“Walking Man”) he recently become more well known for his instrumental CDs: “Silent Night,” featuring acoustic guitar renditions of the world’s most popular Christmas carols, and “Hymns For Acoustic Guitar,” acoustic guitar versions of classic old hymns. His new singer/songwriter album “I Can’t Stop Myself,” has been featured on WXPN’s “Sleepy Hollow,” John Weingart’s long running “Music You Can’t Hear on the Radio” on WPRB, and numerous shows on WDVR, where he does a daily radio spot called “The Mergott Music Minute.” He has been teaching guitar in Bucks County for 20 years and recently published his first book “How to Play the Guitar in One Hour.” His live performances include stories about life, and quotes from his 11 year old son Eli, known as “Eli-isms.”
